Let Me Count The Ways
If you’ve done any research online, you’ve undoubtedly come across many articles giving you many ideas. Everything from selling stuff on eBay to taking surveys.
The only problem is these ideas don’t make you enough money. They are great ideas for a little extra pocket cash, but what if you need a significant second income?
There are opportunities to earn more than just pocket cash, online. These methods may take more time, but if you’re already working a second job, then this is no different.
The big advantage, though, is that you can work from home. You can be around your family and work the hours you want. In fact, you can work these types of businesses from anywhere there is an internet connection.
Here are some online opportunities that can create a larger income. They are ideas to make money that should have little to no start-up costs for you.
#1. Become A Virtual Assistant
This type of work is flexible and you can do it part-time if you find the right client to work for.
It doesn’t require a college degree, but if you have any knowledge of web design, you would be sought after from many online businesses.
Many clients are simply looking for VA’s to do research, or send out emails. Others need people to take care of their social media accounts and networks. These could be things you already know because you do your own.
#2. Create An Online Course With Teachable
Do you have expertise in something? Have you had people asking you for help with something specific?
It doesn’t have to be a subject you went to University for. It could just be a hobby that you’ve done for years, and know everything about it.
Why not help others by creating an online course? You’d be surprised what people will pay for when looking for instruction. So why not get paid for sharing your knowledge?
#3. Start A Drop Shipping Website
Have you heard the name Shopify? This is another way to make money online, called e-commerce. You create a store, online, and when people come to purchase an item, the wholesaler handles the shipping for you. No need to carry inventory.
Though you can build your online business on other platforms such as eBay or Etsy, Shopify has everything you need in one place.
#4. Create Your Own YouTube Channel
Did you know that YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and third most visited site after Google and Facebook? That’s a lot of traffic!
So why not take advantage and create a YouTube channel about something you’re passionate about? And if you’re lucky, it’ll go viral and lots of people will buy what you’re promoting.

#5. Use Email Marketing
This is a form of affiliate marketing but takes a little longer to get going. Some systems online recommend you use Solo ads for a quicker start, but this can become costly.
What’s a Solo Ad? It’s when you pay a vendor for the use of his email list. You send him your promotion and he sends it to his list, for anywhere up to $1 per click. So sending out to 100 people could cost you $100.
Personally, I think this is unethical because people have not given you permission to spam their inbox.
A better way would be to create an email list on your own. If you don’t have a website, you can use social media. And by offering your subscriber valuable incentives, like ebooks or a video course, etc., they would be willing to give you their personal information.
#6. Start Hosting An Online Podcast
What niche are you interested in? Do you love talking about it and offering to give out helpful information? If so, having your own online podcast could be right up your alley.
And once you see your audience grow, you can start finding ways to monetize and connect with sponsors. If businesses in your chosen niche see the size of your audience, they would be willing to advertise on your podcast for your set fee.
#7. Webinar Training On Social Media
This could be done without a website if you already have a significant following on social media. You could start weekly training on a subject that appeals to them, and slowly start promoting a product or service that would help them.
Simply starting with Facebook Live, is perfectly fine. In fact, I’ve watched many pieces of training this way. And when you start making money, you can become more professional looking by using a service like GoToWebinar.
#8. Freelance Work For Hire
Do you enjoy writing, acting, or doing voice-overs? How about more advanced things like coding new software? There are many opportunities for freelance work online.
Granted, the acting idea would need proper tools, but coding or writing would only require your laptop, right? You would be amazed at the amount of work that’s requested from potential clients.
Visit sites like Fiverr, or Upwork to see what clients are looking for. Then create your profile and start advertising. You can also post your ads on Facebook Market, or other local sites like Kijiji or Craigslist.
#9. Sell Books On Amazon
Are you a closet author, lol. Love to write but never thought about publishing. It’s easier now than you think. You don’t necessarily need formal publishers to tell you what to write about, or how you need to change it. Now you can simply write and publish with Amazon Publishing.
It can be as easy as writing a Kindle formatted book. Digital books are all the rage right now.
Simply do some research about trending topics or what subject is most highly sought after, and you have the perfect idea for your first book. And then another, and another… I know many people who make good money this way.

Keeping The Best For Last
This is my personal recommendation to build a passive income. It’s an online business that can start with something as simple as a blog. And when you’ve gained a loyal following, you can promote products or services that you feel would be helpful to your community.
There are many ways to monetize your business so that you can have more than one stream of income. It’s always important to not put all your eggs in one basket, right?
What’s A Blog?
One of the best descriptions I’ve read comes from Yahoo Answers…
“A blog is a website for which an individual or a group frequently generates text, photographs, video or audio files, and/or links, typically (but not always) on a daily basis. The term is a shortened form of weblog. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called “blogging”. Individual articles on a blog are called “blog posts,” “posts,” or “entries”. The person who posts these entries is called a “blogger”.
Some people start blogging online simply to share ideas or travel vacations. But what they don’t realize is that this can become a very lucrative business.
You see, when you have earned a lot of traffic to your website, you have the opportunity to monetize that website. And what I mean by that, is you can earn income by selling people various things.
Let’s say your blog is about dieting. You started blogging when you decided to change your eating habits and started to lose weight. Blogging was a great way for you to be held accountable.
Now, after some time, people have started to take notice, and are reading your blog posts. They’re even starting to engage with you by asking questions or wanting advice.
This is the perfect time to start promoting helpful products to your readers. And the best way to do this is through affiliate marketing.
What’s Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is when you promote a product or service through affiliate links on your website.
So let’s say you used a specific diet for yourself. It could be a product, like a supplement, or a service, like Weight Watchers. Whatever you used, I’m pretty sure the manufacturer or merchant will have an affiliate program.
All you do is apply to be their affiliate, and get your affiliate link. This is a free process. You add this link to your post when you write about what you used, and how beneficial it was.
When your visitors read this and are inspired by your own results, they click on the link wanting to buy it themselves.
They are directed to the merchant’s site, buy the product, and the merchant pays you a commission for sending them a new customer.
It doesn’t have to end with just one product. You can promote anything that’s relevant to the topic you blog about.
You can also try to increase your sales through Email Marketing. I touched on this above, but now that you have a website, it’s so much easier.
Start creating your email list by offering a free incentive to encourage people to give you their email address. This incentive could be some diet recipes, an exercise plan, or possibly a discount coupon the merchant offers.
It’s important to offer something. People don’t usually give their personal information away for nothing.
One of my favourite and no-work types of income is using Google Adsense. You allow them to place ads on your posts, and you get paid every time your readers click on the ads. They make sure the ads are related to your content, and even give you the choice where to place them.
You will notice them on this article I’ve written. I personally choose to place them above my headings. It’s easy to sign up and gives you an extra monthly income. Some successful websites can make thousands per month with just Adsense.
Once you become more experienced online, you’ll discover many other ways to monetize your website. You may even decide to start another, and another, lol. Though I recommend you work on just one website until it’s established before you start another.

But How Can All This Be Free?
Normally it wouldn’t’ be. There is a small yearly fee for a domain name and a small monthly fee for website hosting.
And as you become more serious about your business, there are other tools that can make a drastic difference to your success but also come at a cost.
Now here’s the best part… I can show you where you can start your own blog, all for FREE!
I would love for you to come and see where I run my business. I started here in 2011, and I’m still here. They have a free starter membership which offers:
- Two free websites with hosting.
- The first 10 lessons of the certification course (this covers everything you need to get started).
- A keyword research tool to help rank your blogs on Google’s page one.
And if you choose to sign up to the premium membership, you get so much training on different topics, you’ll probably never get to it, lol. I haven’t yet!
My favourite part is the live and very active community. Not a Facebook one like most other platforms offer, or one of those forums that take forever to get an answer to a question, but a live one. They have a membership of over 1.4 million people around the globe, so you can just imagine how many are logged on each and every day, at every hour.
Most responses come back to you in under 1 minute. This is awesome when you’re stuck and need help.
They have everything you need under one roof. No need to go elsewhere. You can remain free for as long as you wish, but the premium membership is wonderful if you wish to advance and grow your business.
The price is so affordable. No more than it would cost you for a domain name and hosting anywhere else. Plus you get an abundance of training and help from experts, tools, live webinars, live chat, and much more.
There’s truly nothing like it online, with any other training platform. You’re in good hands!
If you click on the image below, you can read all about it. And when you sign up, all you need is your email address and your choice of username. No credit card! No other personal information!
I’ll personally meet you on the inside and help you as long as you need me to, OK? I hope to see you soon.
I hope this blog has shown you the ways you can make money online. It’s very achievable and I’d love to help you get started.
If you have any comments or questions, please leave them below and I’ll get right back to you.
Your friend,
