What Is Affiliate Marketing?

A formal definition, from Investopedia, is:

In other words, it’s when you help promote a specific product or service of a manufacturer or creator.

When someone visits your promotional article or ad and decides to purchase the product, the manufacturer rewards you by paying you part of his profit. This is what we call a commission.

You may be surprised to know that a lot of the online shopping you do is through affiliate sales.

Even when you’re on Amazon, many of the listings are affiliate businesses.

When you’re buying your favourite book, toy or piece of clothing, it could be from an affiliate’s store (his website). Pretty cool eh?

Is It Easy To Do?

In my opinion, as an affiliate marketer myself, yes, it’s easy. But only if you have the proper training. It takes some time, patience and commitment, and the strategies themselves are easy to perform.

You may have already tried doing this on your own, or suffered from “shiny object syndrome” hoping to find overnight riches. It didn’t work for you, did it? I’m guessing not. You know why?

Because most people who attempt this on their own, or hop from one product to another, never seem to get anywhere. It’s always 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

And I often blame these products. They pull you in with an enticing sales page, promising you big sales by the end of the week, right? And when you buy in, you’re probably sucked into all the upsells too.

On the rare occasion that you even get what they promised, it probably doesn’t work for you and there’s no reaching their support.

You see, many of these done-for-you products, that you can pick up for $20-40, are created by what we call “serial launchers”.

They come up with a new product as often as once per month, make lots of money during the launch week, then often cut and run, lol.

OK, I shouldn’t laugh because it’s not fair to you or anyone else. And the terrible thing is that they’re making a bad name for affiliate marketing.

So Why Black Friday?
